KIDS Regio @ Golden Sparrow Festival 2024
Translating Worlds: Diversity and Dialogue in Children’s Media
Time: 6 June 2024
This year, KIDS Regio will once again look beyond the borders of Germany. The programme will focus on the challenges and opportunities of representing different perspectives and identities.
The programme was opened by Melika Gothe, section manager of the Berlinale Generation section and responsible for film mediation and cultural education. She shared observations from her work with selected festival entries from recent years and showed how challenging topics are received by children and young people, that the target group does not always have to be at the beginning of a film’s development in order to convince them, and how questions of language version, form of presentation and communication open up paths to young audiences.
Elisabeth Staak and Marlies Klein from Paramount+ followed seamlessly with their presentation „Dubbing & Diversity“. They looked at the importance of language and diversity in a changing society. Whether it is non-binary characters, insights into different cultures and languages, or role-specific characteristics, today’s children’s formats reflect this increasing diversity at the content level and thus present important tasks and challenges for the dubbing industry.
Speaker:
