“Dad is an architect and mom does yoga”: About family images and adult characters in children’s films – an expert discussion

Family is a core element of childhood and thus also of films for the young audience. Even if mum is no longer waiting behind the stove for the money-earning father, the films instead reflect unconditional self-realisation and new demands on families and their members. But it is not only the parental and grandparental figures who find themselves in the field of tension between 1950s idyll and emancipation; relationship patterns and the relationship between children and adults are also influenced by this.

In a panel of national and international experts we would like to discuss: How can we write children’s films that paint a diverse and up-to-date picture of a family and its members – beyond outdated ideals on the one hand or new clichés on the other?

The last 30 min of the session will be dedicated to a virtual meet and mingle of our guests with the audience.
