Martin Kanzler

Martin Kanzler took up the post of analyst within the Department for Information on Markets and Financing at the European Audiovisual Observatory in September 2007. Following his graduation at the University of Vienna where he studied International Business Economics, he worked for Ernst & Young Corporate Finance in Berlin as an M&A advisor in the media and entertainment sector for five years. He also holds an MA in TV & Film Production from the University of Krems (Donau-Universität) Austria.

What does your institution do? 
The European Audiovisual Observatory gathers and distributes information on the audiovisual industry in Europe. It is a European public service body comprising 40 member states and the European Union, represented by the European Commission. It is part of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. Our main activities are: the publication of market, financial and legal reports, newsletters and the management of databases.

What do you do in this institution? 
I am responsible for the field of film statistics and the LUMIERE database which reports admissions of films released in Europe.

How do see the future of live action feature films for children?
We have been publishing statistics on the theatrical circulation of children’s films in co-operation with KIDS Regio and CINEKID. We hope to continue these co-operations in the future.
