Nia Ceidiog

Nia’s first foray into broadcasting was as a Children’s TV presenter – having been handed a break demonstrating how to make an egg curry on “Seren Wib” in the seventies. And that’s where her career as a cookery broadcaster ended! She continued as a presenter for many years and also began writing for children. Nia was the Writer of the original Fireman Sam – in both English for BBC and Welsh for S4C. Eventually, Nia became a Director and Producer and has worked in all genres from Drama to Documentary, from Education to Light Entertainment. She has produced and directed international coproduction documentaries and large scale productions. In 1996, she set up a production company and continues to produce and direct. The company also works in many genres – specializing in recent years in Documentary and Children’s, and sometimes merging the two! Ceidiog, Cyf punches well above its weight having been the first UK company to have co-produced with Al Jazeera Children’s Channel and supplying a big percentage of S4C’s Cyw’s original content. A highlight is Nia’s documentary series for preschoolers “Y Diwrnod Mawr” (My Big Day) which was nominated for five major awards including Bafta Children’s, Rose d’Or, RTS, Celtic Media and Bafta Wales. Nia’s most recent production “Dwylo’r Enfys” is currently a big hit on S4C and won a Welsh Bafta in 2013. During the last year Nia has also trained in India as a Yoga teacher and now shares her time between sharing her passion for yoga and passionately producing more television for children. She is currently shooting a brand new series of “Y Diwrnod Mawr/My Big Day” for S4C and feels blessed and honoured to spend her days in the company of 26 4-7 year olds throughout Wales and beyond as they move towards a big day in their lives.
