Sergio Basso

Sergio Basso is a movie director and a documentarist. ELEMENTARY LOVE is his first feature film, released in 2014 in Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It is a children’s film and has been selected at the Moscow International Film Festival and Giffoni Film Festival. More recently he devoted himself to developing cross-media platforms for the Italian newspaper Il Corriere della Sera, and to experimenting with the contribution of animation in documentary film-making, which interest led to win the Annecy International Film Festival. He has recently directed a documentary in Beijing for CCTV, the Chinese national television channel, in Chinese. His next project is a feature film in China.

He’s started as a stage director, at the Teatraz Drama Company, and then he went on to the movie industry where he worked as Gianni Amelio’s assistant director for his last production in China THE MISSING STAR. His work was selected and won awards in several major feature-, documentary-, animation- and short- international festivals (e.g. Locarno, Nyon, Annecy, Moscow, Turin). He’s held several workshops in documentary filmmaking abroad, i.e. at the University of Auckland, New Zealand; at the FAMU, Prague. He collaborated with UN, Nokia, Sony, RAI & RAI Cinema, Telecom Italia, Save the Children, Oxford University, the MAAXI Museum in Rome.
